House Web sites and phone systems were jammed to the point of failure this afternoon from masses of constituent e-mails and phone calls related to the impending health care reform bill, according to House offices and administrators.

The calls apparently started after conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh gave out the main Capitol switchboard number on the air.

An employee who answers phones at the House Office of Telecommunications, which maintains the chamber's phone systems, said the switchboard has been inundated "in every way."

I heard Nancy Pelosi say that the switchboard was jammed with callers in support of ObamaCare. Either that woman believes her own lies or she is just plain crazy.

Plain crazy! I know it's a scary though but have you ever watched her when she speaks? Those blinking, bulging eyes and very little eye contact with the camera. You can pretty much tell when she's telling a lie.

I don't think Jeff Foxworthy has to worry about any competition from you, Louie. In short, don't quit your day job.

Limbaugh is being praised for instigating a high school-esque prank? What's next, taking the tires off Ried and Pelosi's cars and dumping them in the Reflection Pool?

Seriously, what Limbaugh did is just a half-assed copy of a 4chan tactic.

Where's the prank? People are calling to voice their opinions, not just to jam the phone lines. The only reason you have a problem with this is because it stands between you and your chance for Socialist Utopia.

And 4chan executed Black Fax/DNS attacks/phone clogs on the Church of Scientology to 'voice their opinions' as well.

I have a problem with this because it's juvenile and childish behavior, same as 4chan.

So dirty pool is only O.K. when Democrats are the perpetrators? Nothing I've seen about this whole process has been aboveboard. It's been one sleazy deal and bribe after another. I, for one, hope Rush's listeners melt the entire phone system in the Capitol.

for instigating a high school-esque prank

so calling congress and letting them know how you feel on the issues is a high school prank? lol. so is it okay to send them a letter voicing your opinion or what is your prefered method of letting them know? or should we just sit back and let them rule, not voicing our opinion because it doesn't seem like they really give a rat's ass what we think.

When did I say I condoned this behavior when ANYONE does it? Show me where I said that. Don't worry, I'll wait.

It's been one sleazy deal and bribe after another.

    Says you.

so calling congress and letting them know how you feel on the issues is a high school prank?

And 4chan's infamous Anonymous was just contacting the Church of Scientology when they DoS attacked their websites, clogged their calling centers and killed their fax machines with Black Faxes. Uh huh. Sure.

so is it okay to send them a letter voicing your opinion or what is your prefered method of letting them know?

There's using the system, and there's abusing the system. These people are affectively instigating a DoS attack on the phone service to a.) be disruptive to legitimate government business, b.) use said disruption of service to somehow indicate a failing in the government and c.) deny normal citizens the ability to contact the government with legitimate concerns.

In other words, it's like setting a fire and then criticizing the fire department for not being fast enough to put it out.

I just don't see the connection, Arad. Bombarding the Church of Scientology is not the same as calling one's representative regarding a piece of legislation that will fundamentally change our lives. If ACORN and the SEIU can bus in their thugs to town hall meetings, why can't Rush provoke a few phone calls? At least Rush's protesters aren't a federally funded rent-a-mob.

Bombarding the Church of Scientology is not the same as calling one's representative regarding a piece of legislation that will fundamentally change our lives.

Bombarding the Church of Scientology isn't the same as bombarding the government? Care to explain that?

      If ACORN and the SEIU...

And the token ACORN reference. I bet it burns you that ACORN was cleared of all wrongdoing, the 'incriminating' tape was proven to be an edited fake, and O'Keefe languishes in prison.

And on another note, you first try to portray this DoS attack as being innocent. Then you try and justify it as a guilty act by saying that ACORN did it first. Which is it? An innocent act or a guilty one? You can't have your cake and eat it, too.

      At least Rush's protesters aren't a federally funded rent-a-mob.

Considering quite a few of Rush's followers are from the south/south-east, a region known for it's poverty (and federal subsidies to help said impoverished), it could be argued that Rush's followers are also federally funded.

They just don't know it. (IE, "Keep your gubment hands off my medicare!")

NO, calling the Capitol switchboard is NOT the same thing as bombarding the Church of Scientology with faxes. WE PAID FOR THE CAPITOL SWITCHBOARD! That number should be there for our use whenever we want. Well, granted the socialiss thing the government "makes" the money and we "take" the money. But it is, in fact, the other way around. Rush has judiciously used his influence over the years and I think he called for this at exactly the right time. When conservatives call their government to voice our poinions, the left cries foul. Why doesn't Rachel Maddow call on her listeners to "inundate the capitol switchboard". I'm sure all 600 viewers would call immediately!
